My photo series, ‘Fragments of Beirut: A Post-War Narrative’, explores new dimensions on representations of war, violence, time, memory, and identity. In my work, I am particularly interested in the Lebanese civil war experience and its dialogue with memory in order to givecritical insight into oft-neglected facets of ‘normal’ life during wartime and post-wartime Beirut. These images explore the “art in life”, through random compositions of daily living framed in windows and on walls. They tell the tale of a post-war city in the grips of a dichotomous existence – caught between the ever present memory of war, and the desire to forget. My work addresses this intertwining of ordinary and extraordinary, drama and banality, as an experience that lends itself readily to artistic examination. Fragments of Beirut, is a palette for strokes of quotidian life in Beirut; the colors bleed into each other as the city breathes; a still image of acity in constant flux, abandonment, re-invention, change.
