This photograph was taken in Gockhausen, near Zurich in Switzerland. It shows an Eton Fives court. Can you imagine my astonishment coming across this curious structure in this location on the edge of a field?

Eton Fives is one derivative of the British game of Fives, it is a hand-ball game, similar to Rugby Fives, played as doubles in a three-sided court. The only Eton Fives courts outside the UK are in France and Switzerland.

Eton Fives is most popular in Nigeria, so the greatest number of courts are actually outside of the UK altogether in Africa!
