I am not a fan of Shopping Malls but I decided to see whether I could find anything interesting inside one. This is what I came up with. The photograph was taken at the Glatt Centrum, Wallisellen, Switzerland.

Zurich – Main Station

Photo submitted by © Helmut Stampfli

  • Personal note

Zurich is the largest railway station in Switzerland, frequented every day by about 350′000 persons. The station is an important node in the Swiss railway network, especially in the network of suburban trains, bringing commuters from and to work. About 1′800 trains leave the station every day. But the station is not only a station: It is also a shopping centre with 117, a ‘transit zone’, a meeting point, even a living room for some people.

Bellinzona – Medieval city walls

Experiencing the city from a different point of view, from above is such an interesting thing. And amazingly interesting is when you are strolling through the medieval city walls that cut the territorial context in two parts.
You walk through the past, above the present. Is that considered a high future?!?

Gockhausen – Mobile Phone

This image would not be in the least surprising if it had been taken in London, Manchester or anywhere else in the UK except this was taken in Gockhausen, Switzerland in a quite street away from the urban centre of Zurich.

This is a classic Giles Gilbert Scott K2 phonebox designed for the Post Office, as I believe it was then known. There is obvioulsy a fan of this classic piece of design living close by who went to the trouble of importing this object from the UK. On the other hand, it could just be a new kind of mobile phone. ps there is no telephone inside but it provides shelter from the rain should you wish to make a call from your mobile. • Personal note

Geneva is having a public transports services’ improvement. All around the town people are working everyday very hard. Unfortunately this has collateral damages and it is very uncomfortable walking around the town. There are days the building where I am working is trembling and one could think there is a earthquake.

Gockhausen (Zurich) – Eton Fives court

This photograph was taken in Gockhausen, near Zurich in Switzerland. It shows an Eton Fives court. Can you imagine my astonishment coming across this curious structure in this location on the edge of a field?

Eton Fives is one derivative of the British game of Fives, it is a hand-ball game, similar to Rugby Fives, played as doubles in a three-sided court. The only Eton Fives courts outside the UK are in France and Switzerland.

Gockhausen (Zurich) – The Geeren Guesthouse

  • Personal note by Tim Grosvenor

This photograph was taken whilst my dog was taking me for my evening stroll. The Geeren is a typical guesthouse with good food, and of course beer. It is my nearest pub although I rarely imbibe. The crepiscule reminds me of the Magritte images of day and night – The Empire of Lights.
Location, Gockhausen 8044, near Zurich, Switzerland

Lausanne – Le Barbare

The Escalier du Marché staircase is part of the Chemin de Saint-Jacques, the pilgrims’ way from central Europe to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. On the staircase down from the Cathedral is located the “Chocolaterie “Le Barbare”. The hot chocolate is renowned through out Switzerland (a serious compliment in the land of chocolate)
